Accountability in Professional Sports

SELECTIVE POLITICS

When leagues choose which causes matter
- and which don't.

Why do leagues take stands on some issues but stay silent on others?Who decides which political messages players can express
—and which they must suppress?
What past moments forced leagues to act,
and what strategies actually worked?

Which corporate sponsors profit from both sports partnerships
and government enforcement contracts?
How much public money subsidizes stadiums
while communities go underfunded?
Where does the revenue go —
and who actually benefits when leagues stay silent?

FOLLOW THE MONEY

Corporate sponsors, public subsidies,
private profits.

COMMUNITY ACCOUNTABILITY

Billions in subsidies.
Zero accountability in return.

If leagues demand community support—ticket sales, stadium subsidies, tax breaks—what accountability do they owe in return? When federal agents kill American citizens in
those same communities, why do leagues stay silent?
What do communities actually receive
for subsidizing billionaire-owned teams?

What has historically forced sports leagues to act? When have boycotts worked?
When has sponsor pressure succeeded?
What strategies create actual accountability —
and what can we do now?

CREATING CHANGE

History shows what works.
Research shows what's possible.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Ice Out Pro Sports is independent investigative journalism covering corporate accountability in professional sports. No league partnerships. No sponsor relationships. No conflicts of interest.I'm a sports fan and a citizen. I believe our leagues should practice the rules and fair play they preach—but they demand different standards for themselves. This project launched following the January 2026 killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis. Investigation into sports leagues' silence on those deaths revealed broader patterns: corporate extraction, selective moral engagement, and zero accountability to the communities that fund these teams. The work continues.

WHY?

Accountability.

Sports leagues consistently and continually bank on community support. They ask us to FUND their stadiums, FILL their stadiums, and show up when they need us.But now, their communities are under attack and they remain silent. They partner with and profit from corporate partners that support ICE. They cozy up to the authoritarian violence and oppression. Our sports teams and leagues need to be accountable.'Community support' is a two-way street.

HOW?

ICE OUT Super Bowl LX

A rolling boycott of sporting events and corporate partners.Turn off your TVs. Cancel your season tickets. Plan a different road trip.Boycott the corporate sponsors - especially those that directly support ICE.Support peaceful protests against ICE, in place of supporting the teams. Organize locally.Call your teams and demand two things: they cut ties with corporate partners supporting ICE; the owners make public statements condemning ICE and its activities.

WHAT?

What We're Demanding

This is very simple.End ICE and DHS occupation of American cities. The sports leagues (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB) and their owners must publicly speak out against ICE activities.Leagues and teams must terminate any and all corporate partnerships with companies supporting ICE.The leagues and teams must have our backs - just like we always have theirs.Take action. See you out there.
